Transliteration is writing using the closest
corresponding letters of a different language or alphabet so
that pronunciation is as close as possible to the original
word.
Some common transliterations we are all
familiar with are Honda and Suzuki. These have been transliterated
into English
to
produce words that sound almost the same as they would to
a native Japanese speaker.
Some of the most common items that
are transliterated are people's and company names on business
cards so that contacts
who speak
a language that uses a different alphabet or script know
how to pronounce them. |
